Over 100,000 people have fled their homes and two people, including a nine-year-old boy, have drowned in the downpour. More water is on the way and authorities are concerned it could be a repeat of the devastating 2007 floods.

Several roads cannot be accessed due to severe flooding in the capital city, leaving thousands of houses damaged.

With the water level at some floodgates already reaching serious danger levels, Jakarta authorities have issued a high flood alert for some areas of the capital.

The city has been inundated with water and floods have reached up to three-meters high. When the 2007 floods hit, it caused almost $500 million of damage in Jakarta alone.

Indonesia is regularly affected by deadly floods and landslides during the monsoonal season, which lasts around half the year, and many live beside rivers that regularly overflow.
